The Trans Youth Sexual Health booklet was produced by trans people aged 16-24 at Gendered Intelligence, in partnership with Terrence Higgins Trust. The project allowed young trans people to get together as a group and learn about sexual health, and also to discuss how to make sexual health information more relevant to trans people. As a result, a group of young people produced this information booklet, which is aimed at trans youth and their partners.
Check out the full pdf here. Hard copies can be ordered here.

Love this! Sex information for trans youth.

This is a really great resource. I definitely recommend it. Some things may be a little bit triggering so before you read be aware of that!

The difference between transgender and transsexual (in my own words). The word transgender is an umbrella term for all gender variant terms that go beneth it. Examples: Crossdressers, Drag King/Queer, Transvestite, Gender Queer, Gender Non conforming, Bi gender, Agender, Transsexual the list goes on and on… Transsexual is one of the terms underneath the term transgender. A transsexual is somoene who is identifying as the sex in which they weren’t born, living as the opposite sex, transitioning from one gender to the other, etc… Someone who is transsexual is transgender (on the umbrella). Someone who is transgender may or may not be transsexual. Also, a lot of transgender transsexual people identify as transgender or trans. Some people who are considered to be transsexual do not identify with the term transsexual. It gets a bit confusing but I hope this helps. Example. I am considered to be transsexual because I am making a transition from female to male and living my life as the sex that I was not born as… I hope this makes sense. If not please feel free to write in my ask box.

A LITTLE HELP ON BINDERS

People keep asking my opinion on binders and how to measure.

My favorite binder was the Tri-Top (style 983) from Underworks.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size - fits Chest:
X-small 28-30
Small 31-33
Medium 34-36
Large 37-40
X-large 41-44
2x 45-48
3x 49-52

Be sure to measure accurately. It’s not safe to get a binder that is too small. Your shirt size might not be your binder size. Be sure to measure. It’s very important!!!

The best color to get is white. The white binder won’t show through your white t-shirt (depending on how thick the tee is) and can often pass as a white tank top.

Disclaimer: This is all in my opinion, of course.

Transgender activist Agnes Torres found dead in Puebla, Mexico

Mexican transgender rights advocate Anges Torres was found dead last Saturday in a ravine in Atlixco, just outside of her home town of Puebla, Mexico. The writer and activist for LGBT human rights had been missing since Friday night. Friends and sympathizers are calling for a swift investigation into the crime.

The coroner reported that Agnes Torres Sulca, 28, had had her neck slashed, and her body showed burn marks, indicating that she had been tortured, according to Mexico news site Proceso.com.mx. “It is presumed to have been a hate crime,” the website reported.

We condemn this crime against a woman, an academic, a psychologist, educator, role model and activist for human rights for women in general and for sexual diversity as a whole,” the Puebla-based organizationVida Plena Puebla. “We are distraught, pained, enraged and saddened by this crime, and feel powerless over how, yet again, a brave person has succumbed to the most brutal of gender-based violence… in this case, violence against a transgender woman.” The organization demanded in their statement that Torres’s murder case be treated the same way as that of “the daughter of any governor, politician, or attorney” and that it be solved swiftly.

The organization had presented before the State Congress on the importance of legislation for sexual diversity and recognition of hate as an exacerbating factor in these cases, particularly of “feminicide” – a word coined in Mexico to refer to specifically to violence targeted at women that ends in murder, which has reached endemic proportions in the country. There have been 6 similar unsolved homicides in the state since the beginning of 2012.

This is what happened today during my speech at a Long Island high school. It’s sad that there are so many ignorant people in the world and that they couldn’t take the education they were given and learn to be less ignorant. I never thought that something like this would happen at my speech and that someone would say things like this to my face and in front of a room full of youth.

Just a few of the many gender terms that are often left out

Bi-Gender: An individual who feels that they have both a “male” and “female” side to their personalities.

Gender Variant: A term which refers to individuals who stray from socially-accepted gender roles in a given culture. May be used in tandem with other groups, such as gender-variant gay men and lesbians.

Intersex: Formally termed “hermaphrodites,” Intersex people are born with the condition of having physical sex markers (genitals, hormones, gonads or chromosomes) that are neither clearly male nor female. Intersexed people are sometimes defined as having some combination of “ambiguous” genitalia. Dr. Anne Fausto-Sterling estimates that 1.7% of births are to intersexed infants. The Intersex Movement seeks to halt medically unnecessary pediatric surgeries and hormone treatments which attempt to normalize infants into the dominant “male” and “female” system. Surgeons often assign the infant as a sex which does not match their gender identity. In addition, many surgeries affect the sexual functioning of intersexed adults, which may include causing the inability to receive pleasure or reach orgasm.

Queer: Queer is a term which has been reclaimed by members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities to refer to people who transgress culturally imposed norms of heterosexuality and gender traditionalism. Queer might be broadly defined as resistance to regimes of the “normal.” Although still often an abusive epithet when used by bigoted heterosexuals, many queer-identified people have taken back the word to use it as a symbol of pride and affirmation of difference and diversity.

Transgender lesbian: An individual, regardless of biological sex, who identifies as both transgendered and lesbian. This could include male-to-female transgenders who are sexually attracted to women, or to biological females who identify as lesbians and who often “pass” as men or who identify to some degree with masculinity or with “butch.”

Hey Eddie, this is the only way I could think of to reply so everyone would see it. I’m healing really well. Quicker than I expected. The scars have faded a lot. The swelling has also gone down a lot but I still have a long way to go before it goes down completely. It still feels swollen. I can’t feel on my scars or my nipples which is normal. I get sudden pains every once in a while, I think because of the change of weather, but it’s nothing to bad. No infections. No bleeding. Everything is really good. The unexpected thing is that I sprouted some chest hairs around the scars. You can’t tell on the picture because they are really small but they are noticible in person which is cool. =] But, yeah it’s going really well. Thanks for asking.
